30 for 30: The Hurt Locker (2009)

AKA the year I started writing about movies. For better or worse, I have to thank Geoff Anderson for the push. If it weren’t for his suggestion, I probably wouldn’t have jumped into writing again. I also visited California, geeked out at the Kodak Theater (to the chagrin of my poor friend Ann Marie), fell in love with beautiful San Francisco, and watched this sensational movie onopening weekend at the Arclight in L.A. with my buds Henry and Ann. One of my most memorable movie-related experiences of that year was watching the narrative of this tiny movie play out: It came out of nowhere, picked up a shit-ton of critic awards en route to sweeping the Oscars.

About 30-for-30

Movies are a huge part of my life – I mean, why else would I be running a blog/site devoted to movies? To commemorate the occasion of my 30th birthday (later this month), I’ll be counting down to the big day by posting a photo of my favorite movie for each year of the last 30 years I’ve survived on this planet. These aren’t my favorite 30 movies EVER but merely the movie I consider my favorite (or the best) of each year. This is my 30 for 30. Click here to see the other 30 for 30 posts.
