Trailer: Epic ‘Godzilla’ trailer lands all the money shots

I know what you’re thinking: “Another Godzilla movie?” I know, I had the same mentality too. But after impressing us with a promising teaser trailer a couple of months ago, my interest was piqued. Now, after watching the full length trailer that Warner Brothers and Legendary Pictures revealed today, I’m completely on board because this looks like a blast! A few knee-jerk thoughts on the trailer below the video.

This thing looks ENORMOUS! And I’m not just talking about the monster but the movie itself. Eye-popping visual effects-aside, there’s definitely signs of brains behind the brawn here. Even if the end result is a total piece of mierda, it’s obvious from this trailer that WB are really confident with what they’re selling.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen may be the top-billed cast members but WB sure is putting all the spotlight on Bryan Cranston. And why wouldn’t they? Especially when he’s in full-on freaked out, chickenshit “Walter White” mode.

Great use of Gyorgy Ligeti’s “Requiem” to build tension. The track, of course, was most famously used by Stanley Kubrick in his seminal 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Director Gareth Edwards is definitely taking a page from Guillermo Del Toro’s monster movie handbook – from the global scenes of destruction to the geek-friendly cast. While I haven’t seen Edwards’ debut feature, Monsters, I’ve heard a lot of good things about it. Godzilla may or may not pan out to be more than a brainless exercise in CGI, but at the very least, it’s guaranteed to erase all memories of the last attempt to bring back the classic monster to the big screen. I’m looking at you, Roland Emmerich!
